11 Years

Time is a funny thing.

On the one hand, it feels like a lifetime ago when Eden and I were living in Perkin Apartments, the married student housing at Evangel, and we found out she was pregnant. We packed up our 500 square foot apartment, bought our first home, moved in, and prepared for the arrival of our firstborn.

On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like 11 years have passed already. When I look at Noah, it still feels like he needs to be swaddled, fed, and laid down for a nap. Instead, he turns 11 years old today, knows what food he likes (and doesn’t like!), and is begging for a cell phone (more to come on that).

Two years until he’s a teenager, five years until he’s driving, and seven years until he’s technically an adult. So much life has happened already, but there’s so much more to come. And so, here we sit, momentarily looking back admiring the memories already lived while the momentum of life catapults us forward faster than we’d like.

As the saying goes, the days are long, but the years are short. So today, we’ll close our eyes, ignore the hurry that beckons us on, and remind ourselves, these days are the good old days.

Happy Birthday, Noah. #daddylessons
